Welcome Back Danforth!

Dear Danforth Families,

Welcome to our new students, and welcome back to those returning for the 2025-26 school year! We’re so very excited to greet you all on Tuesday September 2, 2026. Set your alarms!

What to Expect on the First Day

The first day of school is a regular day 2. Staff will be present and active in the halls to support students finding their way to classes.

You can view all of our school bell schedules here: Daily Schedules

If you’re new to Danforth, or just don’t know where a specific room is, you can check our maps here: Maps

My Timetable

Due to technical difficulties, we are unable to send out timetables at this time. However, as of 4:30 p.m. today (Thursday, August 28), timetables will be visible in the TDSB Connects app. Students can sign in using their TDSB student number and network password.

·         Available to all students through the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store

·         We strongly recommend that all students who have access to a mobile device install this app as it will be an important way for us to communicate and organize events this year.

·         If you need help with using the TDSB Connects app, instructions are available here

·         To view Semester 2 courses, select a date after January 31, 2026 in the “Timetable” section of the app.

We will send out timetables digitally once we are able to.  Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Guidance Counsellors

Here is the list of this year’s Guidance Counsellors:

·         A – C: Mr. Hayward – kieran.hayward@tdsb.on.ca

·         D – K: Ms. Chan – jessica.chan@tdsb.on.ca

·         L – R: Ms. Martin – alexis.martin@tdsb.on.ca

·         S – Z: Ms. Mnyusiwalla – laila.mnyusiwalla@tdsb.on.ca

Timetable Changes

If you would like to request a timetable change, please complete the following form: DCTI Course Change Requests

Important notes:

·         Guidance Counsellors will prioritize requests from students who are:

·         missing courses (spares),

·         missing prerequisites, or

·         already completed a course.

·         Please do not email your Guidance Counsellor directly about a timetable change.

·         If you have a full timetable of 4 classes, you must follow your schedule until further notice.

·         Due to very high enrollment this year, most classes are full. Some students may have been scheduled into their alternate course choices from course selection.

We encourage all students and families to review timetables to ensure that you have the appropriate prerequisites and aren’t repeating courses (ex. “I did this class in summer school, but I’m scheduled to take it again in Semester 2,” or “I’m scheduled for grade 10 math, when I still need to complete grade 9 math”). Bring these issues to the attention of your guidance counsellor ASAP so those errors can be corrected.

School Forms

You will receive this year’s school forms directly from the TDSB. We encourage families to fill these forms in as soon as possible so that we have accurate information and required permissions to support your child effectively from day 1.

Student Fees

Public education is free, and no child or family needs to pay anything to access their education. Texts and required materials will be provided or loaned to students for all their courses, but we know there’s more to having a positive school experience than just attending classes.

Sports, clubs and other activities and ceremonies are not funded and require additional investments from the community. School fees go directly to our Student Council, Arts Council and Athletic Council to support related clubs, teams, and activities that help build our community and enhance student life at Danforth.

Student fees for the 2025-26 school year remain $30, and we strongly encourage every family who can pay to do so. Danforth boasts robust co-curricular programs and school-wide events that benefit our entire school community, and with school budgets tightening, we are more reliant than ever on these funds to ensure program opportunities outside the classroom remain strong.

While it is generally expected that students pay their fees, full or partial waivers will be granted to students experiencing financial hardship. No student will be excluded from participating in student life due to financial hardship.

Fees will be posted in School Cash in the 1st week of school.

Donations

What if I want to provide more than $30 to support activities at the school, or to help offset costs for others who might need a subsidy? After paying your own student fee, you could choose to make a donation.

If you would like to donate to the school, you can do so through this link: https://tdsb.schoolcashonline.com/Fee/Details/457/153/false/true?school=601&initiative=1

Donations made via this link will generate a receipt for tax purposes.

Student Handbook and Code of Conduct

The Student Handbook and Code of Conduct has been updated for the 2025-26 school year, and we are asking parents and students to review it carefully. It has valuable information including key contacts, school bell schedules, maps, and routines.

Electronic Devices

A reminder that the Ministry of Education’s Policy and Program Memorandum (PPM) 128 is still in effect. This Ministry directive requires that student cell phones are neither seen nor heard during instructional time, except as directed by the teacher for instructional or medical purposes. It also makes electronic cigarettes (vapes) prohibited items in schools, which must be confiscated if seen.

It is the responsibility of all education workers in the province to follow this Ministry directive, so please be understanding if staff ask for you to turn over your device. We are simply doing our jobs. We ask that parents and guardians please have conversations with your child to help them understand that phones must remain silent and away in class and vapes remain out of sight while on school property.

Website

Our website is an ever-growing source of key information (including this and all future memos). We encourage you to bookmark www.danforthcti.com to keep up to date throughout this year.

News

Danforth Collegiate and Technical Institute is committed to helping students disconnect from devices and social media. Starting this year, anything posted to official social media accounts will also be posted on our website or (for classroom / group accounts) in the appropriate Google Classroom or Brightspace site.

Announcements and other important news items will also be posted on the bulletin board outside the main office. Check often!

We are so very excited to welcome you back to another year at Danforth CTI.

See you on Tuesday!
