Principal's Update (long weekend edition)
Hello Danforth Families!
It’s Friday and we’re headed off to a long weekend! That’s right - no school on Monday!
Looking towards next week, there’s a lot going on:
Monday - Victoria Day (no school)
Tuesday - Student Council Elections / Student Climate Survey (Assembly Day Schedule)
Wednesday - Late Start Schedule
Thursday - Grad Breakfast (for those graduating this year)
Friday - Relay for Life / Senior Sleepover
Saturday - Spring Into Art Showcase
For more, check out the Calendar on our website!
Student Climate Survey & Student Voice
TDSB conducts a Student Climate Survey every two years to get information directly from students on their experience at school. With the exception of a small number who completed the opt out form, it is our hope that we will get a strong and representative response from the student body to help us identify areas we’re doing well and other areas where we can grow.
The survey is being completed using an electronic form, so students are asked to bring their Chromebook if they have one. Students with cell phones who wish to use them for the purposes of completing the survey will be allowed to do so (but they must be put away immediately afterward - no distractions in class!)
This is just one part of a larger student voice initiative at Danforth aimed at orienting our school and our efforts to meet the needs of all of our learners. On Tuesday May 20th, make your voice heard!
Relay for Life
The leadership students are doing an incredible job coordinating our annual Relay for Life event, scheduled for Friday. They’ve already hit the $25,000 target they set, which is an incredible achievement. How high will it go? Visit the Relay for Life page to keep tabs on the ever-rising tally, or make a contribution to support your favourite team!
Spring Into Art Showcase
Our annual art exhibition has made some changes this year, moving in house, and hosting a Saturday event to invite our entire school community to come and experience the artistic achievements of our students. We hope you’ll come by from 1 - 4 on Saturday May 24th to support the arts at Danforth!
Trustee Updates
Please view Trustee Sara Ehrhardt’s May Update, the Ward 15 PIAC Election Update, and sign up for updates on Sara’s Ward 15 Website. Plenty of information on the TDSB’s recent budget updates, for those who are seeking information on the current state of the TDSB budget and how to have your say. Check it out!
Skills Ontario
Danforth is incredibly proud to be bringing home the silverware (goldware?) at the Provincial Skills competition. We swept the podium in IT - Business Software Solutions, with Lucas winning gold, Dimitri winning silver, and Zander taking the bronze. In Team and Home Building Luis, Tiago, Renato, and Gage brought home the silver. In Photography, Jake brought home a silver as well.
In all, Danforth won the most medals of any TDSB school (5 medals), coming in ahead of competition from Western Tech (4 medals) and Central Tech (1 medal).
Hillside Build
Mr. Lorca’s class completed a build at Hillside Outdoor Education School, embodying our motto of We Learn By Doing, while also creating something that will benefit the TDSB community for years to come. There’s a tangible pride in how Mr. Lorca speaks of his class the way they responded to this real-world challenge. Newcomer Day (City of Toronto)
The City of Toronto’s Newcomer Office would like to invite your students and clients to attend the 11th annual Toronto Newcomer Day. Toronto Newcomer Day is an annual event to officially welcome newcomers to Toronto and celebrate their contributions to the city. The one-day event includes a formal stage program with remarks from special guests, an information fair with resources for newcomers, and a number of interactive activities for guests.
This year, Toronto Newcomer Day will take place on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Nathan Phillips Square and Toronto City Hall.
There are several interactive and educational activities outlined in the letter attached that students are encouraged to participate in. When registering for activities, please ensure you leave enough time for travel between activity locations.
* Toronto Newcomer Day, including the activities, will be running rain or shine.

There’s always so much to say, celebrate and to look ahead for, but for now, please have a safe, restful and happy weekend Danforth!
