October 23 Walkout
October 22, 2024
Dear Parents, Guardians, Caregivers and Students,
This is important information for our school community and parents/guardians/caregivers are strongly encouraged to discuss the contents of this letter with their child(ren). We have been made aware of a student walkout scheduled to take place at Danforth CTI on October 23, 2024. Please note that some previous walkouts have been joined and/or led by members of the public and this may occur again.
It’s important to note that the TDSB is not involved in organizing this walkout, nor are we in a position to permit it or stop it from occurring. We are advising any participating students that the walkout should take place off school property and for their safety, students should stay on public sidewalks and off roads and other private property. As always, our top priority is the safety of our students and staff. During the walkout, a limited number of school administration and staff will be outside to support safety, however it is important to note that once students leave school property, we cannot supervise them. Toronto Police will also be on site to assist with managing traffic and ensuring community safety where needed.
We have also advised students that when expressing themselves, they do so in a constructive, respectful and responsible way. As a reminder, students under the age of 18 require parental permission to leave class. Any students who do not attend class will be marked absent.
At Danforth, we are committed to providing a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment. This includes providing students with access to professional support services and resources as needed. We recognize that students who are not participating in the walkout may also be impacted. Please know that staff will be supporting and checking in with these students and providing additional supports as needed.
As always, if your child or family needs any support or has additional questions or concerns, we encourage you to please reach out to the school office.
Sincerely,
Bryan Wires
Principal
