Community Safety Letter
October 31, 2024
Dear Parents/Guardians/Caregivers,
This letter is to inform you about an incident that occurred off school property today at approximately 12:30. During lunch, students noticed a male in a parked vehicle who appeared to be videotaping students with his phone. The students did the right thing by reporting this incident to staff. We immediately contacted police and they are now investigating this matter.
We have taken time today to remind students about safe practices, and we encourage you to do the same. Below, please find a helpful list for discussing street safety with your children.
Children should:
- Always tell parents where they are.
- Travel in groups with friends; numbers are safety.
- Know it’s okay to say “no” to an adult who wants them to do something that you have taught them is wrong, even if the adult is yelling at them.
- Never approach or enter a stranger’s car; adults have no acceptable reason to offer a ride or to ask children for directions or assistance.
- Recognize suspicious behaviour, go to the nearest safe place and report it.
- Scream and keep on screaming, kick and bite hard if someone grabs them.
- Never accept gifts from strangers.
Our staff will continue to take all necessary steps to ensure the safety of students and staff during the school day. Your support as parents is very important in reinforcing our safety procedures. If you have any questions, please call the school.
Sincerely,
Bryan Wires,
Principal
